We are pleased to open the Call for Proposals for the 2026 Conference of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information, organized by the Barcelona Declaration together with the Leibniz Association and the Helmholtz Open Science Office.

The conference will bring together signatories and prospective signatories of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information, policymakers, and others working to advance open research information. It will provide a space to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore how policy and practice can reinforce one another in supporting the transition to open research information.



Call for Proposals

We invite proposals for presentations and posters that share experiences, lessons learned,, and reflections on both successes and setbacks related to the adoption and use of open research information across different institutional, national, regional, and international contexts.

We particularly encourage submissions that address the interplay between policy and practice, and how they can reinforce one another in advancing the transition to open research information.


Possible topics include

  • Policies, strategies, and implementation approaches for open research information
  • Governance, organizational change, and institutional adoption of open research information
  • Research funding information, identifiers, and infrastructures
  • Managing and curating research information across repositories and systems
  • Open metadata in scholarly publishing
  • Using open research information for research assessment, monitoring, and decision-making
  • Open research information sources and their use in practice
  • Replacing proprietary research information sources and systems by open alternatives
  • Artificial intelligence and open research information: opportunities, dependencies, and governance challenges"


Types of Contributions

Presentations

Presentations can be in person or online. Selected presentations will be scheduled as either lightning talks (10 min) or longer presentations (20 min) with additional time for audience questions.

We will prioritize presentations that address the interplay of policy and practice in the implementation of open research information.

Posters

Posters will be displayed at the conference venue and online. Authors will have the opportunity to present their poster in a short pitch session.

Posters can present projects, initiatives, experiences, tools, or emerging work related to the conference theme.

  • Title
  • Author(s) and affiliation(s)
  • Preferred contribution type (Presentation or Poster)
  • Abstract (maximum 2000 characters)

Important Dates

We welcome proposals from people and organizations working with or interested in open research information, including representatives from research institutions, funders, infrastructures, libraries, consortia, policymakers, research organizations, networks, and community initiatives.

We particularly encourage contributions reflecting diverse geographic, organizational, and regional perspectives.

We look forward to receiving your proposals and to continuing the conversation on how policy and practice can work together to advance open research information.

All proposals will be evaluated based on their relevance to the conference themes, quality, and the overall balance of the program. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee acceptance or participation.
