The signature connects Open Pharma with an international community working towards open research information and brings private-sector experience into the Barcelona Declaration network.
We are pleased to welcome Open Pharma as a signatory of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.
Open Pharma is a multisponsor collaboration, facilitated by Oxford PharmaGenesis that works to improve transparency and access in pharmaceutical research communications. It brings together pharmaceutical companies as members and a wider network of more than 220 supporting organizations, including publishers, patient organizations and research funders, providing a forum for developing and putting into practice shared approaches to open science.
Vicky Sanders, Communications Team Leader at Oxford PharmaGenesis and part of the Open Pharma team reflected:
“At Open Pharma, one of our key strategic priorities is to leverage author and institutional metadata to enhance transparency, discoverability and research impact. By signing the Barcelona Declaration, we are reinforcing our commitment to advancing these goals and supporting a more open and connected research ecosystem.”

Open Pharma has experience translating principles into practical action, from negotiating open access publishing for research from pharmaceutical companies to supporting the adoption of persistent identifiers and improving access to understandable research information. For the Barcelona Declaration, this experience can inform collective work across different research environments, while Open Pharma can draw on the knowledge and implementation experience of an international community of signatories.
Welcoming the signature, Bianca Kramer, Executive Director of the Barcelona Declaration, noted:
“Open Pharma signing the Barcelona Declaration sends a clear signal that open research information is of value not only to public institutions, but also to commercial organizations that conduct and fund research. We are excited to engage with Open Pharma, given their extensive activities in promoting open science for pharmaceutical companies, and hope to increase the availability and use of open research information in pharmaceutical research."
The signature extends collective action on open research information into an important part of the research ecosystem and creates new opportunities to learn across institutional and sectoral contexts.
We warmly welcome Open Pharma to the Barcelona Declaration community and look forward to working together.
